    about us...

VHFSouth is a group of Amateur Radio operators within the 5th call area whose main focus is operating on the bands above 50Mhz (VHF+). We are engaged in promoting VHF+ activity of all types, with special emphasis on VHF+ contesting and roving. We have an interesting and diverse group with interests that just as varied as we are. Some of us are, for example, interested in general rag chewing on frequencies above 50MHz, while others are interested in exotic propagation modes which "magically" extend contact distances on these higher frequencies well beyond "normal" ranges. During VHF+ contests, VHF South operators activate their fixed or rover stations and work to make as many contacts as possible between as many maidenhead grids as possible.

With the advent of all the new multi-band, multi-mode HF-UHF transceivers on the market, many of which can be purchased new for $800 or less (less during sales!), getting on 50MHz, 144MHz and 432MHz is a simple undertaking. If you are interested in the VHF+ bands or in VHF+ activity in general, and are looking for like-minded folks to help you expand your operational horizons, come join us. After all, the more activity, the better!
